Wisconsin Rapids City Band
City Band music has been flowing through the Wisconsin Rapids area for almost 150 years and it continues today thanks to the efforts of a number of dedicated band members who would not allow it to cease after fiscal restraints necessitated the elimination of funding from the city of Wisconsin Rapids in 2006.
At that time a Board of Directors was formed and the band was organized into a self directed, self governed organization. The Community Foundation of South Wood County assisted this process by serving as a resource to the Board, providing guidance in fiscal management, board governance and funding. These arrangements continue today.

Wisconsin River Papermaking Museum
The Wisconsin River Papermaking Museum is pleased to announce the opening of a new exhibit, THE WORLD OF PAPER, featuring the art and history of pre-paper and early papermaking in China and Japan. This fascinating exhibit, on loan from the American Museum of Papermaking, Atlanta, Georgia, tells the history behind the most ordinary and useful of everyday objects - a sheet of paper.
Some highlights of the exhibit include rare tapa cloths (bark cloth) from the South Pacific and examples of parchment used for early documents. Also on display are antique papermaking tools and large wooden papermaking vats from China and Japan. Beautiful wood blocks, some of them used to print ceiling wallpaper for the Empress of China in the late 1700s, are included in this exhibit as well. Many fine examples of washi (Japanese handmade papers) are also featured.
In addition to this exceptional collection of art and artifacts, an informative and entertaining one-hour video tells the story of Japanese papermaking in the village of Imadate.
The Wisconsin River Papermaking Museum is located at 730 First Avenue South, First Avenue South, and is open from 1 p.m. until 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, excluding holidays. Admission is free. For more information, call 715-424-3037.
