Great Wisconsin Birding & Nature Trail
The Great Wisconsin Birding and Nature Trail is a mapped auto trail that when complete, will reach into every area of the state. Full-color viewing guides with maps and descriptions of every site will lead the nature traveler to warblers, shorebirds, eagles, loons, cranes and all manner of mammals found in some of the states premier wildlife venues.

Outstanding natural resources will make this an exceptional trail. The public has nominated National forest sites, State Natural Areas, county, city and State Parks, private museums, nature centers and US Fish & Wildlife Service properties for inclusion in the project. A system was used to asses each site and those that ranked highest in the process were placed in the project.

The Wisconsin Rapids Area will become a part of the Great Wisconsin Birding & Nature Trail in 2007, when the Central Sands Region Birding & Nature Trail is complete. The Lake Superior Birding and Nature Trail and the Mississippi and Chippewa Rivers Birding and Nature Trail are completed and can be ordered free of charge by contacting the WDNR's Bureau of Endangered Resources at 608-266-7012, or Susan Foote-Martin@dnr.state.wi.us.
